FREDDIE MACHIN | Writer
Hello!
I'm a playwright and screenwriter, you can find examples of the kind of thing I write in the work section. I would describe what I write as drama with a social conscience and sense of humour, which often revolves around taut, disrupted family dynamics.
My first stageplay, Chicken, was produced at Southwark Playhouse in 2011. I subsequently adapted it to feature film and the movie got its UK cinema release in May 2016. Mark Kermode included it in his best films of that year for the Guardian newspaper and it is now available on iTunes and Apple TV+.
I have written a number of plays for UK drama schools including The Real Estate, which is published with NIck Hern Books and will receive its fifth production in Spring 2024.
I'm a Lecturer in Screenwriting at Keele University and have taught, directed and written for a number of FDS accredited drama schools including LAMDA, Central School of Speech and Drama, Manchester School of Theatre, Drama Studio London, and Italia Conti where I was resident playwright for six years.
